1. -Кругом - одна несправедливость, - так говорил один старик.

И перед ним, взглянув пытливо, Господень ангел вдруг возник.

-Молил ты Господа, - сказал он, - открыть тебе Его дела:

Зачем одни живут в печали, другие же - не знают зла.
2. И вот, повёл посланник Бога его далёко за село:
Там был источник у дороги и дерево с большим дуплом.
-Сиди, мой друг, в дупле, покуда я не вернусь, и наблюдай:
Сюда приходит много люда, ты лишь себя не выдавай.
3. И ангел словно растворился… Старик залез в дупло и ждал.
Вдруг видит он: остановился богатый путник на привал.
Сел на ковёр, порезал сала, достал набитый кошелёк
И долго золото считал он, жуя просаленный кусок.
4. Когда богач, напившись чаю, собрал оставшийся паёк,
То не заметил, как случайно он обронил свой кошелёк.
Старик в дупле сидит и видит: ушёл богач, пришёл другой:
Одежда скромная по виду, в котомке - хлебушек с водой.
5. Платочек расстелил на травке, водичкой хлебушек запил…
Увидев кошелёк, так рад был, что даже шёл куда - забыл.
Домой отправился, довольный… Старик же всё в дупле сидит.
Глядит: идёт дорогой дольней бедняк в лохмотьях - жалкий вид.
6. Но не успел ещё бедняга омыть в источнике чело, -
Вернулся тут богач и нагло стал требовать свой кошелёк.
И находясь в порыве злости, его безжалостно он бил…
Упал бедняк на камень острый и тихо дух свой испустил.
7. Но не найдя своей пропажи, богач бежал - и был таков!
Старик в дупле заплакал даже, как вдруг явился ангел вновь.
Спросил его: «Ну, что ты видел?» - «Несправедливость лишь одну!
Невыносимо, ангел, видеть мне безнаказанной вину!»
8. - Теперь, старик, меня послушай, - сказал он, свой рассказ начав, -
Нашедший кошелёк - был лучшим когда-то другом богача.
Но тот богач был слишком жадным, он хитрым и коварным был,
И вот при помощи обмана он друга напрочь разорил.
9. А тот бедняк и сам когда-то ограбил брата и убил,
Но всё, покаявшись, раздал он и смерть такую же просил.
И внял Господь его молитвам: дал мученический венец.
И тут старик в слезах воскликнул: «Небесный справедлив Отец!»

Seeing the wallet, he was so glad that he even went where - he forgot.
He went home, pleased ... The old man sits in a hollow.
He looks: the poor man in rags is going on dearly harness - a miserable look.
6. But the poor thing still did not have time to wash in the source of the brow, -
The rich man returned here and brazenly began to demand his wallet.
And being in a fit of anger, he was mercilessly beaten ...
The poor man fell on the stone sharp and quietly let his spirit.
7. But not finding his loss, the rich man fled - and was that!
The old man in the hollow even cried, when the angel appeared again.
He asked him: "Well, what have you seen?" - “There is only one injustice!
It is unbearable, an angel, to see me with unpunished guilt! "
8. “Now, old man, listen to me,” he said, starting his story, “
Found wallet - was the best one of the rich man.
But that rich man was too greedy, he was cunning and insidious,
And with the help of deception, he completely ruined his friend.
9. And that poor man himself once robbed his brother and killed,
But everything, repenting, handed out and asked the same death.
And the Lord heeded to his prayers: he gave a martyrdom.
And then the old man exclaimed in tears: "Heavenly Father Father!"
