"Возвращаясь ко второму интермеццо соч. 117 b-moll, мы сближаем его в характеристике и постижении с интермеццо соч. 119, № 2, e-moll.
И в том и в другом интермеццо как бы исчезает «земное тяготение». Интермеццо b-moll находит свою тонику лишь в предпоследнем такте сочинения, в такте 84-м, скитаясь в загадочно-сумрачных, то горьких и горестных, то мгновенно-неожиданных, призрачно-светлых интонациях. Сквозь все сочинение слышится тревога.
Многие замечательные примеры образов тревоги мы, конечно, имеем в поэзии; вспомним Евгения в «Медном всаднике»:
Он оглушен был шумом внутренней тревоги.
И Ленау, и Блока, и Пастернака и вот: «Ветер» – небольшой цикл о Блоке – именно Пастернака, в особенности конец:
Блок ждал этой бури и встряски.
Ее огневые штрихи
Боязнью и жаждой развязки
Легли в его жизнь и стихи.
Однако, где тревога, там и ее источник: искание правды в целом, удивление, вопрошанье, поиски и своего жребия и разгадки причины скорби мира («Causa mali») и вообще непостижимых ему тайн вселенной.
В этом лирико-философском плане мы и сближаем оба эти интермеццо. Но и они различны: интермеццо соч. 117, № 2, не находя до конца своей тоники, получает как бы призрачное утешение в середине в тактах <22–38>, в Des-dur’e, как бы и мы можем вспомнить:
Офелия гибла и пела,
И пела, сплетая венки,
С цветами, венками и песнью
На дно опустилась реки.
(А. Фет <«Офелия гибла и пела…»>)
В призрачной фантастичности своей предсмертной песни Офелия обрела утешение Иной Реальности.
А мы с вами – дарованную нам Брамсом остановку – подобие покоя – среди того потока бытия, что Анна Ахматова обозначила «Бегом времени»..."

"Returning to the second Intermaczo, 117 b-moll, we bring it closer in characterization and comprehending the Intermaczo, 119, No. 2, E-Moll.
In both intermetso, “earthly gravity” disappears. Intermezzo B-Moll finds his tonic only in the penultimate tact of the essay, in the tact of the 84th, wandering in mysterious-sulfur, then bitter and sorrowful, then instantaneously waited, ghostly light intonations. Alarm is heard through the whole composition.
We, of course, have many wonderful examples of anxiety images in poetry; Let us recall Eugene in the "Copper Horseman":
He was stunned by the noise of internal anxiety.
And Lenau, and Blok, and Pasternak and now: “Wind” - a small cycle about the block - namely Pasternak, especially the end:
The block was waiting for this storm and shakes.
Her fire strokes
Fear and thirst for a denouement
Poems and poems fell into his life.
However, where is the anxiety, there is its source: the search for truth in general, surprise, questioning, searching and its lot and the unraveling of the cause of the sorrow of the world (“Causa mali”) and generally incomprehensible secrets of the Universe.

In the ghostly fantasticity of its dying song, Ophelia gained the consolation of a different reality.
And you and I - a stop granted to us by Brahms - a kind of rest - among the stream of being that Anna Akhmatova designated "running time" ... "
