И о своем создателе помни с юных дней,
Еще до поры, как настанут дни худые
И приблизятся годы, о которых ты скажешь: "Я их не хочу", -
До поры, как затмится солнце,
И свет, и луна, и звезды,
И после дождя будут снова тучи, -
В день, когда трясущимися станут обходящие дом,
И скрючатся твои бойцы,
И будут мельничихи праздны, ибо станет их мало,
И потускнеют глядящие в окошки,
И запрутся на улицу двери,
Как затихнет голос зернотерок,
И еле слышен станет голос птиц,
И поющие девушки притихнут;
Малого холмика станешь бояться,
И препоны будут на дороге,
И цветы миндаля опадут,
И наестся саранча,
И осыплется каперс желанья -
Ибо уходит человек в свой вечный дом,
И наемные плакальщики на улице кружат;
До поры, как порвется серебряный шнур,
И расколется золотая чаша,
И разобьется кувшин у ключа,
И сломается ворот у колодца.
И прах возвратится в землю, которою он был,
И возвратится дыхание к богу, который его дал.
Суета сует, - сказал Проповедовавший в собрании, - всё суета.
А сверх того, что был мудрым Проповедующий, он еще учил на-
род знанию, и взвешивал, и исследовал, и складывал многие притчи.
Искал Проповедующий, как найти слова, дельные и написанные вер- но, слова истины.
Слова у мудрых - как стрекало погонщика,
И как вбитые гвозди - у собирателей пословиц:
От единого пастыря даны.
А кроме них, мой сын, остерегись:
Много книг составлять - конца не будет,
И много читать - утомительно для плоти.
Послушаем всему заключенье:
Бога бойся, храни его заветы,
Ибо это каждому подобает,
Ибо всякое дело бог призовет к суду
Над всем сокрытым в тайне - худым и хорошим.

And remember your creator from your youth,
Even before the bad days come
And the years will approach about which you will say: “I don’t want them,”
Until the sun goes dark,
And the light, and the moon, and the stars,
And after the rain there will be clouds again, -
On the day when those who go around the house become trembling,
And your fighters will cower,
And the millers will be idle, for there will be few of them,
And those looking through the windows will grow dim,
And the doors to the street will be locked,
As the voice of the grain grinders fades away,
And the voice of birds will be barely audible,
And the singing girls will become silent;
You will become afraid of the small hill,
And there will be obstacles on the road,
And the almond flowers will fall,
And the locusts will eat,
And the caper of desire will fall -
For man goes to his eternal home,
And the hired mourners circle in the street;
Until the time when the silver cord breaks,
And the golden cup will split,
And the jug at the key will break,
And the gate at the well will break.
And the dust will return to the ground where it was,
And the breath will return to the god who gave it.
“Vanity of vanities,” said the One who preached to the congregation, “all is vanity.”
And besides the fact that the Preacher was wise, he also taught
kind of knowledge, and weighed, and examined, and put together many parables.
The Preacher was looking for how to find words that were practical and written correctly, words of truth.
The words of the wise are like a driver's goad,
And like driven nails - among the collectors of proverbs:
Given from a single shepherd.
And besides them, my son, beware:
Compose many books - there will be no end,
And reading a lot is tiring for the flesh.
Let's listen to the conclusion:
Fear God, keep his covenants,
For this befits everyone,
For God will call every case to judgment
Above everything hidden in secret - bad and good.
