Шёл до дому, по дороге.
Слева поле, справа лес.
Небо звёзд над головою,
под ногами лунный блеск.
Вдруг сквозь ветви чётко вижу:
силуэт стоит во мгле.
Я узнал его, стал ближе, пробирался он ко мне
Ты? - спросил я осторожно...
Сердце билось всё сильней.
Птицы странной смех истошный
протрещал среди полей.
Обернулся я на хохот,
но когда назад взглянул.
Тень исчезла, ветра шепот,
и я прочь, домой, рванул.
Ночь не спал я, а на утро сразу к леснику пошёл
В хате пусто,но у рощи на пеньке его нашёл…
В ночном лесу гуляет смерть,
я видел как она прошла
И мне теперь покоя нет ни ем ни сплю, болит душа.
Скажи старик, ответь мне брат,
ведь ты в лесу свой человек
Ты видел как, ты видел как она идёт по гладям рек.
Но я был в лесу, искал следы
Везде смотрел, шептал слова,
Но тишина, а на земле
Лежит не тронута листва.
Старик сказал, прищурив глаз
зачем тебе искать её?
Наступит день, наступит час она сама тебя найдёт.
И он ушел держась за трость,
по той тропе, что в лес вела.
Он словно плыл, вдруг хлынул дождь, а вместо посоха коса...
