Непорядок творится в славном Шумере –
Завелось в кедровнике чудо-юдо,
Нечто среднее между человеком и зверем,
Впрочем, я не видел и врать не буду.
Говорят, что оно ужасно ликом
(Говоря популярно – с престрашной рожей),
И оно своим поведеньем диким
Распугало всех купцов и прохожих.
Соберёмся мы в дорогу спешно
И покинем город порой ночною.
Мы пойдём и убьём его, конечно,
Как положено честным героям!
А боги населяют мир всякой дрянью,
Чтоб нам с тобою было не скучно.
Пара чудовищ, немного вниманья –
Всё что герою для счастья нужно.
Чтоб избавить лес от ужасной твари,
Нам не нужно было времени много –
Мы пришли и слегка повоевали,
И пошли обратною дорогой.
По дороге к дому мы решили
Поступить, как нам того хотелось –
Чтобы всем жилось уютней в мире,
Истреблять мы будем всякую мерзость.
Поклялись мы в том сторонами света,
Только боги нас поймут едва ли:
Племенам людей дали мы обеты,
А на мненья богов – наплевали!
Ведь боги населяют мир всякой дрянью,
Чтобы не знал человек покоя,
Чтоб не надеялся он заранье,
Что небо может достать рукою.
На чудовищ ходить вошло в привычку,
Ибо ими мир населён в избытке.
Примирится с ними неприлично,
А без них вся жизнь подобна пытке.
Без чудовищ мир погрязнет в лени,
Да и нам нельзя сидеть без дела.
Мы ещё найдём себе приключений
На фрагменты различные тела!
Так уж в мире этом всем стерпелось,
Что поэты, скорые на слово,
Сочинят про нас длиннющий эпос
И возжаждут наших подвигов снова.
А боги населяют мир всякой дрянью,
А человек сочиняет сказки.
Чтоб не забылись наши деянья,
Эй, писцы, не жалейте краски!...
