О болезнях
Тело есть раб души, душа - царица, а потому сие есть милосердие Господне, когда тело изнуряется болезнями; ибо от сего ослабевают страсти, и человек приходит в себя; и самая болезнь телесная раждается иногда от страстей.
Отними грех и болезней не будет; ибо они бывают в нас от греха, как сие утверждает св. Василий Великий (Слово о том, что Бог не есть причина зол): откуда недуги? Откуда повреждения телесные? Господь создал тело, а не недуг; душу, а не грех. Что же паче всего полезно и нужно? Соединение с Богом и общение с Ним посредством любви. Теряя любовь сию, мы отпадаем от Него, а отпадая подвергаемся различным и многообразным недугам.
Кто переносит болезнь с терпением и благодарением, тому вменяется она вместо подвига или даже более.
Один старец, страдавший водяною болезнью, говорил братьям, которые приходили к нему с желанием лечить его: отцы, молитесь, чтобы не подвергся подобной болезни мой внутренний человек; а что касается до настоящей болезни, то я прошу Бога о том, чтобы Он не вдруг освободил меня от нее, ибо поколику внeшнiй нашъ человeкъ тлeетъ, потолику внутреннiй обновляется (2 Кор. 4, 16).
Буде Господу Богу угодно будет, чтобы человек испытал на себе болезни, то Он же подаст ему и силу терпения.
Итак пусть будут болезни не от нас самих, но от Бога.

About diseases
The body is the slave of the soul, the soul is the queen, and therefore this is the mercy of the Lord when the body is exhausted by diseases; For this is weakened by passions, and a person comes to his senses; And the bodily disease itself is sometimes raised from passions.
Sin and diseases will not be; For they come in us from sin, as this claims by St. Vasily the Great (the word that God is not the cause of angry): where did the ailments come from? Where does the damage come from? The Lord created the body, not a disease; Soul, not sin. What is the most useful and necessary? Connection with God and communication with him through love. Losing this love, we disappear from it, and falling away we are subjected to various and diverse ailments.
Those who tolerate the disease with patience and thanksgiving are charged with this instead of a feat or even more.
One elder, who suffered from a water in the disease, told the brothers who came to him with the desire to treat him: fathers, pray so that my inner person would not be subjected to such a disease; As for the real disease, I ask God that He does not suddenly free me from her, because our man is introduced by the submarine, the internal nod is updated (2 Cor. 4, 16).
If the Lord God will like to have a person to experience illness, he will give him the power of patience.
So let there be diseases not from ourselves, but from God.
