После того как Марта взошла на небо, предвещая рассвет, Волк был убит охотниками. Перепуганные выстрелами птицы сорвались, и более не смогли найти Веснопляса, вернулись в мир.
Дракон же, оставшись совсем один, долго брел, брел, ослепленный и беспомощный как дитя, срываясь в овраги и натыкаясь на колючую проволоку, пока его не проглотил плотный дым, спрятавший от Мира логово вызлых. Приняв их лик, путаясь отсутсвием тропы, так или иначе, он еще помнил смысл себя.
Теперь же Веснопляс, переняв манеры и обычаи черносвистов, уже не ходит сквозь стены и забыл, что умеет летать, зато отчетливо различает улицы, двери… И лишь иногда его сознание мутнеет странными картинами и уже непонятными воспоминаниями…
Сова и Ворон вернулись в Мир. Мир понял, что случилась Беда. В это утро на небе не было Марты… Кто-то еще должен был идти к вызлым, но кто? Храбрецов немало, но в Мире не всякому дано верно ходить по земле.
