Когда-то в этих диких краях появились на запряженных оленях два брата, через еловые леса они пробирались, через большую траву, овраги и буераки, долго ехали, большой путь проделали. Их звали Айна и Гайна - сильные, рослые, красивые были эти братья. На каждого - по оленю, оба оленя - белые.
Приехали братья - а тут ни души. Только густые леса, высокие травы, глубокие реки-озера их встретили. Ослепительно сверкающие дивные горы здесь достигали облаков, а сладкие ароматы цветов витали в воздухе. Посоветовавшись между собой решили братья остановиться здесь на яйляу*. Отпустив оленей, уставшие братья улеглись спать. С восходом солнца вернулись олени, присмотрелись Айна и Гайна к ним внимательно, и ужаснулись - олени вернулись все взмыленные, уставшие и изможденные. Долго братья ломали голову, и на второй день, решив выяснить в чем дело, они снова отпустили своих оленей, но задумали проследить, что же ночью случится. Первым за оленями реши пойти Айна. Долго он шел через лес, и услышал вдалеке испуганные крики оленей. Не раздумывая, помчался Айна к опушке, и видит: вышла из леса старуха, схватила оленя, да вскочила на него верхом. Была эта старуха безобразна: волосатая, грязная, с обвисшими грудями - одну грудь она закинула за плечо, другой себя опоясала. Увидев ее, Айна вскрикнул в испуге.
- А, ты меня подстерегаешь? - воскликнула старуха, и бросилась на Айну. Долго боролись они, но не смог устоять батыр перед натиском старухи, повалила она его наземь, связала, и разрезав его ступню, стала высасывать из ранки кровь.
Забеспокоился Гайна, решил пойти на поиски брата, и предстало перед
ним то же самое зрелище: чудовищная старуха терзала оленя.
Но не испугался Гайна, выбрал удобный момент, кинул веревку, стащил старуху с оленя, схватил крепко за волосы, и начал ее избивать. Ударил он раз, второй, и вдруг старуха превратилась в красивую девушку с длинными волосами. Это была хозяйка той местности, звали ее Тулуа, была она из рода ар. Взмолилась о пощаде девушка:
- Братец, не бей меня, я стану твоей женой!
Задумался Гайна, посоветовался с братом, да взял с Тулуа клятву, что она никогда не будет заниматься дурными делами. Привязал батыр ее волосы к рогам оленя и привел девушку на яйляу. Обосновались они в тех местах, а потомков Гулуа и Гайны и называют тулбуйцами.

Once upon a time, two brothers appeared in these wild lands, drawn by reindeer. They made their way through spruce forests, through tall grass, ravines, and gullies. They rode a long way, covering a long distance. Their names were Aina and Gaina—strong, tall, and handsome. Each had a reindeer, both white.
When the brothers arrived, there was not a soul in sight. Only dense forests, tall grass, and deep rivers and lakes greeted them. Dazzlingly sparkling, wondrous mountains reached the clouds, and the sweet scent of flowers hung in the air. After consulting among themselves, the brothers decided to stop here for a yaylyau*. Releasing their reindeer, the tired brothers lay down to sleep. With sunrise, the reindeer returned. Aina and Gaina looked at them closely and were horrified—they had returned, all sweaty, tired, and exhausted. The brothers puzzled over the matter for a long time, and on the second day, determined to find out what was going on, they released their reindeer again, but planned to watch what would happen that night. Aina decided to go after the reindeer first. He walked through the forest for a long time, and then heard the frightened cries of the reindeer in the distance. Without thinking, Aina raced to the edge of the forest, and saw an old woman emerge from the forest, seize a reindeer, and leap astride it. The old woman was hideous: hairy, dirty, with sagging breasts—one breast thrown over her shoulder, the other girdled around her waist. Seeing her, Aina cried out in fear. "Ah, are you lying in wait for me?" the old woman exclaimed, and rushed at Aina. They struggled for a long time, but the batyr was unable to withstand the old woman's onslaught. She knocked him to the ground, tied him up, and, cutting his foot, began to suck the blood from the wound.
Gaina grew worried and decided to go look for his brother, only to be confronted by the same sight: the monstrous old woman was tearing apart a deer.
But Gaina was undeterred. He chose an opportune moment, threw a rope, pulled the old woman off the deer, grabbed her tightly by the hair, and began to beat her. He struck her once, twice, and suddenly the old woman transformed into a beautiful girl with long hair. She was the mistress of the area; her name was Tulua, and she was from the Ar clan. The girl begged for mercy:
"Brother, don't beat me, I will become your wife!" Gaina pondered, consulted with his brother, and extracted an oath from Tulua that she would never engage in evil deeds. The batyr tied her hair to a deer's antlers and brought the girl to the yaylyau. They settled in that area, and the descendants of Gulua and Gaina are called the Tulbuis.
