As a rule, the singer performs Yoika from someone's face, it can be both a person and an animal. Mari Boine is the Norwegian representative of the Sami. In her family they did not know her native language, and Yoiki was generally banned, however, as in other Sami families. Only psalomas were allowed from music. Mari lived in a very religious family. She recalls that in her youth she was very shy about her origin, dreamed of being a Norwegian or a European. And I did not think about making music and did not think. She worked as a school teacher. And all the same began to sing, while considering herself crazy from the fact that folk music was beckoning and attracting her. It was thanks to music that she learned about her people, parted with complexes, learned her native language and fell in love with the culture of the Sami.
