Севера сын, славы бранной желая,
В дальний поход отплывал
Песнь боевую, к богам обращая,
Доблестных предков вопрошал:
"Где брань и кровь, где стрелы свистят
Не покинет ль удача меня?
А если оставит, я в сече паду
Из рук не роняя меча!"
Храбрый воитель, любимец валькирий
Чашу победы не раз пригубил,
Но смерть раскрывает объятья,
Беснуется Хель и Гарм завывает,
И страх навевает, но сердце героя
Лишь вновь испытает сражения хмель!
Верный сжимая клинок
Он воззвал к Всеотцу!
Честь смерть переживет,
Воин шагнул за черту...
"Доблестно жили и доблестно пасть!" -
Один за другим умирали сражаясь
И каждый, воззвав к Всеотцу, уходил
За своим Таном к чертогам Вальхаллы!
Узрев Скидбладнир окованный златом
Небесный корабль, что послан богами,
На палубе видят дружину свою...
Быстрый летучий драккар
В небеса воспарил
И к престолу богов
Павших он возносил!
Саги слагали и славили всюду
Великих героев, что доблестно пали,
А их предводитель - храбрейший из храбрых
С дружиной своею на пир торопился!
И все вспоминали слова, что вначале
К богам обращал он пред грозным походом,
И отзвук их доброю висой звучал:
"Где брань и кровь, где стрелы свистят
Не покинет ль удача меня?
А если оставит, я в сече паду
Из рук не роняя меча!"
Дланью могучей крепко сжимая клинок,
Герой уходит на Асов пир!
Лишь павший в битве воин прибудет в Асгард
На корабле Скидбладнир!
