The album combines the entries of the first live performances of Miles Davis in more than five years, in the KIKS Boston club on June 27, 1981, other tracks were recorded in Aveha Fisher Hall, in New York on July 5 and Tokyo on October 4 of the same year .
The album received the Grammy Award "Best Solo Jazz - Instrumental performance 1982" (1982 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance by a Soloist).
