I tell you a terrible secret
What my grandfather told me before death
He was a polar explorer, he saw everything
But, what he said before his death,
It crashed into my memory forever
I would never know it better:
The path to Antarctica lay them then
No one thought that their trouble was waiting
On time, their vessel came to the bay
They defeated the camp
And a day later, only a veil crawled
The peaks of the peaks were lit up by the moon
There were no mountains equal to them in height
Everyone admired the dumb beauty
And it was decided immediately then
Send the team there in the morning
People left, a week has passed
There is no news - you can see bad things
Grandfather set off for dogs
Arrived at the place by noon, at lunch

So he stood there, in silent silence
Suddenly he noticed traces in the snow
As if someone was dragged into a blizzard

He went to a dark huge hole

Grandfather carefully climbed into the cave
He was in the tunnel that went downhill
Deeper and deeper the whole path led him

Vile tentacles instead of heads
Built locks through slaves

What happened? - thought the old man
What befell them? - And at that moment
Everything shook, the earth trembled
Soon he saw the body of the worm
Evil, healthy - like a train in the night
Crawled out with a bottomless hole
A piercing screech was heard in the ears
In horror, shuddered like a leaf, my old man
And he ran with all his might ago
Quickly as I could - this bastard behind him,
Every second he overtook him -
Thousand -to -go -free barn barn!
Here, finally, a way out in the night is visible
The heart is knocking at the very limit
Forming free rein - the last jerk!
The toothy castle opened behind
Grandfather jumped forward - the worm screamed!
Light behind the tunnel blinded him
The worm retired, but the grandfather is not his own,
I realized that it was at night.
And returning to the native land
He took his oath - that it was not in vain
He will not tell the truth, I decided, to anyone
As if he had flooded everyone in a blizzard
That would be a terrible place of land,
New people did not come again
And only at an hour that, on the deathbed,
He told that story to me.
