(1) Слова Коэлета, сына Давида, царя в Йерушалаиме. (2) Суета сует, – сказал Коэлет; суета сует, все суета. (3) Какая выгода человеку от всех трудов его, что он трудится под солнцем? (11) Нет памяти о прежних (поколениях), и о последующих, которые будут, не останется памяти у тех, что будут после. (12) Я, Коэлет, был царем над Йисраэйлем в Йерушалаиме. (13) И обратил я сердце мое, чтобы мудростью изучить и исследовать все, что делается под небесами; дурное дело возложил Б-г на сынов человеческих, чтобы томились им. (16) Говорил я так в сердце своем: вот я мудрость приумножил и увеличил более всех, кто был прежде меня над Йерушалаимом, и много видело сердце мое мудрости и знания. (17) И отдал я сердце мое, дабы познать мудрость и познать безумие и глупость; (и) узнал я, что и это – томление духа, (18) Ибо умножая мудрость, умножаешь огорчения, а добавляя знание, увеличиваешь скорбь.
